Refurbished Contemporary Kent Home
Window Design Project
A bespoke glazing designed for a contemporary home refurbishment in Kent, focused on framing woodland views and maximising natural light throughout the living space

Project Requirements
As part of a full refurbishment of a contemporary home in Kent, the homeowners set out with a clear vision: to make their property’s stunning woodland surroundings the focal point of the living space. The existing structure, while well-positioned, failed to fully capture the beauty of the landscape due to smaller, outdated windows that limited both views and natural light.
The brief centred on installing large-format picture windows to create uninterrupted sightlines across the woodland. Maximising glass area while maintaining structural integrity was essential, requiring carefully engineered frames capable of supporting expansive panes. Slimline aluminium frames were selected to achieve a clean, modern aesthetic without detracting from the view.
Performance was equally important. The homeowners required high-spec glazing to ensure excellent thermal insulation, preventing heat loss despite the increased glass surface area. Solar control glass was also specified to reduce glare and overheating during brighter months, while maintaining clarity of the outdoor scenery.
Given the scale of the refurbishment, the window installation needed to integrate seamlessly with other building works, including internal reconfiguration and exterior updates. Precision, coordination with other trades, and a high-quality finish were all critical to delivering the desired result.
Timeline & Budget
The project formed part of a wider refurbishment programme, with the window installation scheduled strategically to align with structural modifications and interior works. From initial consultation and design development through to completion, the window element of the project spanned approximately six to eight weeks.
This included detailed site surveys, structural assessments to accommodate the larger openings, and the bespoke manufacturing of the picture windows. Installation itself was completed over a two-week period, allowing time for careful handling and fitting of the large glazed units, as well as finishing works to ensure a seamless integration with the building envelope.
The budget reflected the premium nature of the installation. Large-format glazing, specialist lifting equipment, and reinforced framing systems contributed to costs sitting in the upper tier for residential window projects. However, the homeowners prioritised quality and long-term value, recognising that the windows would be the defining feature of the property. Clear planning and coordination ensured the project remained on budget, with no unexpected delays or cost overruns.
End Result
The completed installation transformed the home, delivering on the original vision of bringing the outdoors in. Expansive picture windows now frame the surrounding woodland like natural artwork, creating a strong visual connection between the interior spaces and the landscape beyond.
Natural light floods the home throughout the day, enhancing the sense of space and highlighting the clean, contemporary design. The slimline frames remain visually unobtrusive, allowing the glass—and the view—to take centre stage.
Despite the increased glazing, the property benefits from excellent thermal performance, maintaining a comfortable indoor environment year-round. Solar control features help regulate temperature during warmer periods, while high-performance insulation reduces energy consumption in colder months.
The end result is a striking, modern living space that fully embraces its setting. By prioritising large-format windows and thoughtful design, the homeowners have created a home that feels open, მშვიდ, and deeply connected to nature—perfectly balancing aesthetics, performance, and everyday comfort.
