Glass Balustrades
Frameless, post and glass, and standoff glass balustrades for stairs, landings, balconies and terraces, installed across London and the Home Counties.
Glass balustrades keep stairs, landings, balconies and terraces safe without blocking the light or the view. We design, supply and install made-to-measure glass balustrades using systems from BM Architectural, a UK manufacturer based in Sheffield, for homes across London and the Home Counties.
Our glass balustrade range
Frameless glass balustrades → – No posts or top rail, just glass in a discreet channel. Uses BM Architectural's EazyFit system, with load ratings from 0.36kN up to 3kN.
Post and glass balustrades → – Slim stainless steel posts, glass clamps and a handrail. Strong, versatile and usually the most cost-effective option.
Standoff glass balustrades → – Glass held off the edge of the stair or slab on stainless steel standoffs, so it appears to float.
Materials and finishes
Every balustrade uses toughened laminated safety glass, specified for the loading of your application. Fittings are in grade 316 marine-grade stainless steel, suitable for indoor and outdoor use, with polished, satin or matt black finishes available depending on the system.

Why choose glass?
Uninterrupted views: enjoy the outlook without bars or panels in the way. More light: glass lets light flow between floors and across terraces. Modern style: a clean, architectural finish for staircases and outdoor spaces. Easy to maintain: wipe-clean glass and durable stainless steel.

Frequently asked questions
Which glass balustrade is right for me?
Frameless balustrades give the clearest view with no posts or top rail. Post and glass balustrades are usually the most cost-effective and work well for retrofits. Standoff balustrades hold the glass off the structure so it appears to float. We recommend the best option at your design visit.
How high does a balustrade need to be?
In homes, Building Regulations guidance generally asks for guarding at least 900mm high on stairs and landings, and 1100mm on balconies and other external edges. We design every balustrade to the height and loading its location needs.
What glass do you use?
Toughened laminated safety glass, specified for the loading of your application. Laminated glass stays in place if a pane is damaged.
Can glass balustrades be used outside?
Yes. We use grade 316 marine-grade stainless steel fittings and aluminium channels suitable for balconies, terraces and roof gardens.
Do I need planning permission for a glass balustrade?
Replacing a balustrade on an existing staircase doesn't need planning permission. A new balcony, raised terrace or roof terrace may, so check with your council or architect.
