BM Architectural EazyFit system

Our frameless balustrades use the EazyFit channel system from BM Architectural, a UK manufacturer of architectural glazing and balustrade systems based in Sheffield.

• Load ratings: channel kits rated from 0.36kN up to 3kN, so we can match the system to the loading your staircase, balcony or terrace requires. The heavy-duty version is tested to BS 6180.

• Fixing options: aluminium channels that are either base-fixed into the floor or side-fixed to the face of a slab or stair stringer.

• Adjustable alignment: an adjustment system lines up each glass panel precisely, for a straight, continuous run of glass.

• Finishes: silver or black channels to suit your scheme.

Frameless glass balustrades: frequently asked questions

How high does a glass balustrade need to be?

In homes, guarding is typically at least 900mm high indoors, such as on stairs and landings, and at least 1100mm on balconies, roof terraces and other outdoor edges. We design every balustrade to the height Building Regulations require for its location.

What load does a balustrade need to withstand?

It depends on where it is. A private staircase needs a lower load rating than a balcony or a busy terrace. BS 6180 sets the loads, and we select the EazyFit channel rating to suit.

What glass is used?

Frameless balustrades use toughened laminated safety glass. If a pane is damaged, the laminated interlayer holds the glass in place rather than letting it fall.

Do I need a handrail?

Depending on the glass specification, the load rating and where it is installed, a handrail or top rail may be required. We confirm this at survey.

Can frameless balustrades be used outside?

Yes. They are popular on balconies, terraces and roof gardens.

How do I clean a glass balustrade?

Clean with warm, soapy water or a glass cleaner and a soft cloth. Low-iron glass stays ultra-clear, and outdoor panels benefit from a regular rinse.

Balustrade or Juliet balcony?

A Juliet balcony guards a door opening on an upper floor where there is no walk-out space. A balustrade guards a staircase, landing, balcony or terrace.
