Frameless Juliet Balconies

Overview

A frameless Juliet balcony lets you open full-height doors or windows on an upper floor safely, with nothing but glass between you and the view. There are no posts or rails, just a slim channel and clear toughened laminated glass.

It is ideal for bedrooms, loft conversions and new builds, bringing in more light and fresh air without the cost or planning complications of a walk-out balcony.

We survey the opening, check the wall construction and measure precisely, then our own team installs the balcony carefully and cleanly.

Every installation is backed by our 10-year insurance-backed guarantee and the manufacturer's product guarantee. We install Juliet balconies across London, Hertfordshire, Kent and Surrey. The system we install

  • BM Architectural EazyJuliet: a single aluminium channel, fascia-fixed to the face of the wall or reveal-fixed inside the opening, holding the glass at 1100mm high. The system is load-tested to 0.74kN/m to BS 6180, the British Standard for barriers.

  • Glass and widths: toughened laminated glass sized to the opening: 13.5mm glass for widths up to 1.4m, 17.5mm up to 1.8m, 21.5mm up to 2.4m, and 21.5mm SentryGlas up to 3m.

  • Finishes: silver, black or grey channels in anodised, satin or brushed finishes.

Frameless Juliet balconies: frequently asked questions

Do I need planning permission for a Juliet balcony?

Because a Juliet balcony doesn't project from the building, it is often simpler to approve than a walk-out balcony. Planning rules still vary for listed buildings, conservation areas and flats, so check with your council, especially if you are adding new French doors at the same time.

How high is a Juliet balcony?

The EazyJuliet system gives a guarding height of 1100mm, the height Building Regulations typically require to guard an opening on an upper floor.

How wide can a Juliet balcony be?

Up to 3m on a single run of glass with the EazyJuliet system. The glass thickness is chosen to suit the width.

Can you fit one to my existing doors?

Usually, yes. The channel fixes either to the face of the wall or inside the reveal, so it can often be added to existing French doors or full-height windows. We check the wall construction at survey.

Frameless or with a stainless steel rail?

Frameless gives the cleanest look. A stainless steel handrail adds a top rail you can hold, for a more traditional feel.
