Bi-Fold Doors

Aluminium bi-fold doors open an entire wall to your garden. The panels fold and stack neatly to one or both sides, so your kitchen, living room or extension flows straight out onto the terrace, and on colder days the slim frames keep the view while keeping the weather out.

We design bi-folds for everything from Victorian terraces to large new-build extensions. You choose the number of panels, which way they fold, whether they open in or out, and whether to include a traffic door for everyday use. Level thresholds give a smooth step-free transition between inside and out.

Every set starts with a home visit, where we help you choose configuration, colour, glazing and hardware, then take a full measure for an accurate quote. A surveyor checks every detail before manufacture, and our own fitting team installs your doors carefully and cleanly.

Origin bi-fold door systems we install

As an Origin accredited partner, we install all three of Origin's aluminium bi-fold door systems. Each is made to measure in the UK.

• Origin OB-36+: Origin's slimmest and most energy-efficient bi-fold, with a 36mm sightline, U-values as low as 0.78 W/m²K and PAS 24 security.

• Origin OB-49: a 49mm sightline for more glass and light, U-values as low as 1.1 W/m²K, PAS 24 security and Secured by Design accreditation available.

• Origin OB-72: the original Origin bi-fold with bolder 72mm profiles, U-values as low as 1.1 W/m²K, PAS 24 and police-preferred Secured by Design accreditation.

All three come in over 150 RAL colours and carry Origin's guarantee of up to 20 years (standard environments), alongside our 10-year insurance-backed guarantee.

Which Origin bi-fold should I choose: OB-36+, OB-49 or OB-72?

If you want the slimmest frames and the best thermal performance, the OB-36+ is the one to look at. The OB-49 balances slim sightlines with Secured by Design accreditation, and the OB-72 suits larger openings and a bolder architectural look. We will show you all three at your design visit.

How many panels will I need?

It depends on the width of the opening and how you want the doors to open. Fewer, wider panels mean fewer frames in the view; more panels fold back into a tighter stack. We work out the best configuration when we measure up.

Can I have a traffic door for everyday use?

Yes. Most sets can include a traffic door, a single panel that opens like a normal door so you don't have to fold the whole set back every time you go outside.

Are aluminium bi-fold doors secure?

All of Origin's bi-fold systems meet PAS 24, the UK security standard for doors, and the OB-49 and OB-72 are available with Secured by Design accreditation.

Do I need planning permission for bi-fold doors?

Replacing existing doors on a house is usually permitted development. Widening an opening or adding doors to a new extension can need planning permission and structural approval, and listed buildings and some conservation areas have extra rules. See our FAQ page for more.

Bi-fold or sliding doors?

Bi-folds open almost the full width of the opening. Sliding doors have larger panes and slimmer frames, so they give a better view when closed. Many homeowners choose based on how often they will fully open the doors.
