Post & Glass Balustrades
Overview
A post and glass balustrade combines clear glass panels with slim stainless steel posts and a handrail. It is strong, versatile and usually the most cost-effective way to guard a staircase, landing, balcony or garden terrace with glass.
It suits indoor and outdoor use and works well for retrofit projects, because the posts can be fixed to most floors, stairs and decks.
We survey the space, confirm the loading and heights needed, and measure precisely. Our own team installs the posts, glass and handrail carefully and cleanly.
Every installation is backed by our 10-year insurance-backed guarantee and the manufacturer's product guarantee. We install glass balustrades across London, Hertfordshire, Kent and Surrey. Compare our frameless and standoff balustrades, or book a free design consultation.

The system we install
We use BM Architectural's pre-assembled stainless steel balustrade posts and glass clamps, made by a UK manufacturer based in Sheffield.
Posts: 40 x 40mm square posts or round posts, 1100mm high, in grade 316 stainless steel with a polished finish, or matt black powder coat. Middle, end and corner posts are available, with fixed or adjustable handrail saddles.
Glass clamps: D-shaped and square clamps in 304 or 316 stainless steel, in satin, polished or black finishes, with rubber inserts so metal never touches the glass. Clamps suit glass from 8mm to 25.5mm thick.
Handrail: a flat or 42.4mm round handrail sits on the post saddles.
Post and glass balustrades: frequently asked questions
How high does a balustrade need to be?
In homes, guarding is typically at least 900mm high indoors, such as on stairs and landings, and at least 1100mm on balconies, roof terraces and other outdoor edges.
Is it suitable outdoors?
Yes. Grade 316 stainless steel, the marine grade, resists corrosion outdoors, which is why we use it for garden and balcony balustrades.
Can I have black posts?
Yes. Posts are available in matt black powder coat as well as polished stainless steel, and glass clamps come in satin, polished or black.
Can it follow the line of a staircase?
Yes. Posts and clamps can be set out to follow a stair rake, with the glass cut to suit.
Post and glass or frameless?
Post and glass is usually more cost-effective and easier to fit to existing structures. A frameless balustrade has no posts at all, for the cleanest view.
