Origin OB-49 Bi-Fold Doors
Overview
The Origin OB-49 is Origin's slimline aluminium bi-fold door: a 49mm sightline that gives you more glass and more daylight than a standard bi-fold, with the strength and security of Origin's original 72mm system underneath. It is the bi-fold most homeowners choose when they want a modern look that still suits a period house.

OB-49, OB-36+ or OB-72?
Origin makes three bi-fold systems. The OB-36+ has the slimmest 36mm frames and the best thermal performance (as low as 0.78 W/m²K). The OB-49 balances slim sightlines with Secured by Design accreditation. The OB-72 is Origin's original system, with wider 72mm profiles and a more traditional look. We bring samples of each to your design visit.
How it works
We visit your home to talk through panel numbers, opening direction, colour, glazing and hardware, then take a full measure for an itemised quote. A surveyor checks every detail before manufacture, and our own fitting team installs your doors and leaves your home clean. You receive a FENSA certificate where applicable, a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee and Origin's product guarantee.
Origin OB-49: frequently asked questions
Is the OB-49 secure enough for a ground-floor rear door?
Yes. The OB-49 meets PAS 24, the UK security standard for doors, and holds Secured by Design accreditation, the police-preferred standard.
Does it suit a period property?
Often, yes. Its slim frames read as modern, but in a heritage colour or Origin's Soho or Georgian styles it sits comfortably on Victorian and Edwardian homes.
Can I have a traffic door?
Yes. Most configurations can include a traffic door for everyday use, so you don't need to fold the whole set back each time.
Do I need planning permission?
Replacing existing doors is usually permitted development. Widening an opening or adding doors to a new extension can need planning permission and structural approval; listed buildings and some conservation areas have extra rules.
