Roof Lanterns
Overview
An aluminium roof lantern turns a flat roof into a source of light from above. Its pitched glass sides draw daylight deep into kitchens, orangeries and extensions, making the room feel taller and brighter, and it becomes a striking architectural feature in its own right.
Lanterns can be designed in a range of sizes and proportions to suit your roof, with slim aluminium bars for a clean, modern look. Solar-control and self-cleaning glass options help manage heat and keep the glass looking clear with less effort.
We start with a design visit to assess your roof and discuss size, style and glazing. After a full measure and survey, your lantern is manufactured to size and installed by our own fitting team, working carefully alongside your builder if you are mid-project.
Every installation comes with a FENSA certificate where applicable, a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee and the manufacturer's product guarantee. We supply and fit roof lanterns across London, Hertfordshire, Kent and Surrey. For a minimal alternative see our flat rooflights, or book a free design consultation.

Roof lanterns: frequently asked questions
Do roof lanterns need to meet Building Regulations?
Yes. In England a new or replacement rooflight should achieve a U-value of 2.2 W/m²K or better. The Korniche lantern achieves as low as 1.0 W/m²K. If the lantern is part of a new extension, it is covered by the extension's Building Regulations approval.
Do I need planning permission for a roof lantern?
A lantern fitted as part of an extension is usually covered by the extension's planning permission or permitted development. Adding one to an existing flat roof may need permission depending on how far it projects, so check with your council or architect.
Which glass should I choose?
Solar-control glass reduces heat build-up on sunny, south-facing roofs, and self-cleaning glass helps keep the roof clear. We'll recommend the right glass based on which way the roof faces and how the room is used.
How big can a roof lantern be?
The Korniche lantern is made to measure, from 850mm x 850mm up to 6m x 4m externally. We confirm the right size for your roof at survey.
Can I have a different colour inside and out?
Yes. Dual-colour frames are available at no extra cost when you choose two of the stock colours, so you could have black outside and white inside, for example.
Roof lantern or flat rooflight?
A lantern's pitched glass adds height and makes a bold feature. A flat rooflight is more minimal and sits lower on the roof.
Can you fit a lantern during building work?
Yes. We can work alongside your builder on an extension, measuring the upstand once it is built so the lantern fits exactly.
