Overview
Aluminium French windows are a pair of sashes that open outwards from the centre with no fixed post between them. Open both and the whole frame is clear, giving you maximum fresh air and an uninterrupted view. They bring the look of a traditional pair of casements to bedrooms, living rooms and period homes, with modern performance.
They are a popular choice on upper floors, where French windows paired with a glass Juliet balcony let you open a room right up safely. Add Georgian or Crittall-style bars to suit a Victorian or Edwardian home, or keep the glass clear for a clean, contemporary look.
Every project starts with a free design visit, where we help you choose the style, colour, glazing and hardware, then take a full measure for an accurate quote. A surveyor checks every detail before anything is made, and our own fitting team installs your windows carefully and leaves your home clean.

The Origin window system we use
French windows are made exclusively on Origin's OW-80 Premium system.
Origin OW-80 Premium: a flush frame with a timber-like finish, a 91mm sightline and U-values as low as 0.8 W/m²K with Aerogel.
Tested to PAS 24 and Secured by Design accredited, with Georgian or Crittall-style bars available.

French windows: frequently asked questions
Is there a post in the middle when they open?
No. The two sashes close against each other rather than a fixed mullion, so when both are open no frame remains in the opening.
Can I add glazing bars?
Yes. Choose Georgian bars for a traditional look or Crittall-style bars for a steel-look finish, or leave the glass clear.
Are aluminium French windows secure?
The OW-80 system they are made on is tested to PAS 24 and Secured by Design accredited.
Do I need a Juliet balcony upstairs?
If the windows open onto a drop, Building Regulations require protection against falling. A glass Juliet balcony is a neat way to provide it without blocking the view.
Do I need planning permission?
Replacing windows with ones of a similar appearance is usually permitted development for houses. Flats, listed buildings and homes in conservation areas with an Article 4 direction may need consent, so check with your council first.
