French Doors
Overview
Aluminium French doors are a pair of glazed doors that open from the centre, giving you a wide, elegant opening onto the garden without the cost or complexity of a full glass wall. They suit kitchens, dining rooms and living rooms in every kind of home, from Victorian terraces to modern extensions.
You choose whether they open inwards or outwards, and can add fixed glazed panels at the sides or above to bring in more light. Pick Origin's Gallery style for clean modern lines, Soho for a steel-look grid, or Georgian for a traditional pattern. On an upper floor, pair them with a glass Juliet balcony.
Every project starts with a free design visit, where we help you choose the configuration, colour, glazing and hardware, then take a full measure for an accurate quote. A surveyor checks every detail before anything is made, and our own fitting team installs your doors carefully and leaves your home clean.
You receive a FENSA certificate, a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee and the manufacturer's product guarantee. We supply and fit aluminium French doors across London, Hertfordshire, Kent and Surrey. Compare them with our bi-fold doors and sliding doors, or book a free design consultation.
Origin door systems we install
Origin French doors are available in three profile systems, so you can choose the balance of slimness and strength that suits your opening.
Origin OB-36+: Origin's slimmest profile, with a 36mm sightline and U-values as low as 0.78 W/m²K.
Origin OB-49: a 49mm sightline for more glass, with U-values as low as 1.1 W/m²K.
Origin OB-72: bolder 72mm profiles, with U-values as low as 1.1 W/m²K.
All three come in over 150 RAL colours, with dual-colour options, and carry Origin's guarantee of up to 20 years in standard environments (10 years on frames and 5 on hardware in marine environments), alongside our 10-year insurance-backed guarantee. Every set comes with multi-point locking.
French doors: frequently asked questions
French doors or bi-fold doors?
French doors give a generous opening with just two doors to manage, and suit narrower openings. Bi-folds fold back almost the full width of a wider opening. We can show you both at your design visit.
Should they open inwards or outwards?
Outward-opening doors keep floor space clear inside and seal tightly against the weather; inward-opening doors avoid a patio or balcony outside. Origin French doors can do either.
Can I add glass at the sides or above?
Yes. Fixed glazed panels at the sides or above the doors let you fill a wider or taller opening and bring in more light.
Which style should I choose?
Gallery suits modern homes, Soho gives the steel-look grid popular in period and warehouse-style properties, and Georgian adds a traditional glazing pattern.
Do I need planning permission?
Replacing existing doors on a house is usually permitted development. Widening an opening can need planning permission and structural approval, and listed buildings and some conservation areas have extra rules.
